The most wonderful time of the year is fast approaching, this means there is no better time to start planning your festive celebrations. Here at the River Rooms we want your party to go off! So, we’ve pulled together these top tips that’ll have you ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ in no time.

For your party to be the bash of the year, it’s going to take some planning. First things first, let’s get in the Christmas spirit, dig out your festive jumper, pour yourself a glass of eggnog and pick up a notebook as there’s lots to plan!

  1. Bring Out Your Inner Child

Themes can be nostalgic, grand and a lot of fun – they can also set the tone for your party. We’ve found these brilliant ideas from Good Housekeeping… our favourite is the Ho Ho Ho-down, you can just imagine how much fun a festive line dance would be! For music, we’ve found you a kicking party playlist so you can tick that off the list. For décor, nothing says classic Christmas more than a winter wonderland seen under #Christmasdécor… https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/christmasdecor/?hl=en

  1. Will I Be Able To Stumble Home?

If you’re looking for a venue to host your party, location is one of the main factors to look out for since you want all guests to be able to get there (and get home!). It’s also important to find out what’s included when going for a package, so a few things to find out might be:

  • Is there a DJ / dancefloor / photobooth included?
  • Will the venue space and walkthrough be exclusive to you?
  • Will there be a dedicated event manager to support you?
  • Is there a theme already in place?

This will help make your planning a little easier.

  1. Better Food = Less Guilt

If you’re hosting a party at home, look at these great Christmas food ideas we’ve found on Pinterest. [WARNING: do not open this link before lunch!]. From cranberry and brie puff pastry stars and a cheesy fruit tree to chocolate wreath cupcakes and sugar cookie truffles, these fun recipes will certainly have guests filling their bellies.

For those hosting at a venue, it’s best to find out the menu beforehand so you can decide what best works for you. We all love to indulge during the Christmas period, and the better the food, the less we feel guilty for this!

If you want to put your signature spin on the night, why not look at personalising the drinks? Think Christmas cocktails like a classic snowball or a steamy mulled wine… if this takes your fancy, then have a look at these festive drinks from BBC Good Food.

  1. Don’t Forget The Trimmings

If you want to be the talk of the town, it’s time to pull out all the entertainment stops. In many Christmas films we see Santa dashes, karaoke sessions to classic Christmas songs and sledging down stairs like Kevin McCallister in Home Alone. We’re not advising sledging downstairs as a safe option, especially if you’ve had one too many eggnogs, however we do know that Christmas Parties are all about making memories!

Stuck for ideas? What about Christmas party bands, carol singers or even stilt walkers, magicians or caricaturists? If you’re planning a party at home, how about Christmas mad libs, wreath-making or perhaps have all guests dress up as their favourite Christmas character and head outdoors for a snowball fight… should the British weather be so kind.

And if all else fails…

… simply find a venue that does it all for you! Every year the River Rooms puts on a Christmas theme that knocks the socks of guests, and this year is no different. Our Christmas Luau will make you go TIKI CRAZY!
